CloudStack is a comprehensive, open-source software solution that accelerates the deployment, management, and configuration of multi-tier and multi-tenant infrastructure cloud services by enterprises and service providers. To learn more about its technical features and pricing information, see myCloud with CloudStack.

RightScale Support for CloudStack

RightScale currently supports CloudStack 4.2 and 4.5. Use the RightScale Cloud Management (CM) Platform to manage all of your servers in a cloud infrastructure built with CloudStack technology. For mapping with RightScale and CloudStack, keep in mind that there is a 1:1 relationship between a CloudStack user and a RightScale account. For more information, contact support@rightscale.com.

Features

The RightScale Cloud Management Dashboard supports a set of features that enables you to manage your CloudStack cloud. Here is a list of supported features:

Feature Description/Notes
Instances Virtual machine instances in the cloud.
Images Machine images that are used to build instances.
Instance Types Categorization with respect to compute resources such as CPU, memory and local storage.
Datacenter/Zones A regional datacenter in the cloud.
External Firewall Firewall running from a network device.
IP Addresses Public IP addresses are supported in the RightScale Dashboard, however you can only create them in the CloudStack management console. After creating your IP addresses beforehand, they will be populated in a dropdown menu when creating a server for selection.
Load Balancer This feature is supported by RightScale. However, you must write your own scripts to connect and disconnect from load balancing pools. You may also contact your account manager or sales@rightscale.com for more information on how to execute this action.
External Load Balancer This features is supported by RightScale. However, you must write your own scripts to connect and disconnect from load balancing pools. You may also contact your account manager or sales@rightscale.com for more information on how to execute this action.
Network Service Offerings CloudStack's network-as-a-service offering is supported in the RightScale Dashboard with the default Network only. Currently, you may not choose a network when launching a server, the default Network will be used every time.
Port Forwarding Rules Used to enable communications between external hosts and services offered within a VLAN. This feature is only supported in the Dashboard and currently not for the API.
Projects This feature is not supported in the RightScale Dashboard, however we recommend not using projects with RightScale, instead utilizing RightScale.
Security Groups Serve as firewalls for instances that restrict ingress (incoming traffic) communication based on protocol type (TCP, UDP, ICMP), IP address, and ports.
Subnets An identifiably separate part of an organization's network.
Stop/Start Stores the instance's current volume state to resume later using the 'start' action. Then starts an instance that has been stopped, resuming it to its previously saved volume state. When the instance is 'stopped', in RIghtScale dashboard the current instance is marked 'stopped' and a new instance is created in the 'provisioned' state with the same resource UID. Note: If the instance is started outside of RightScale, the userdata is not generated in which case the instance is stuck in booting. In that case you may need to do a workaround.
VLAN A group of devices on one or more LANs that are configured to communicate as if they were attached to the same wire.
Volumes Permanent storage device in the cloud.
Volume Types The types of permanent storage Volumes the cloud offers. A Name, Resource UID and Size is associated with a Volume Type.
Volume Snapshots A Cloud storage volume at a particular point in time.
